This is Unifoil’s fastest offering. It’s significantly thinner than anything they currently offer. It’s made from UHM carbon to increase stiffness, but based on its thin profile and tight taper at the mast head, it’s design is more focused on not only it’s stiffness, but it’s speed and efficiency.

Smaller team riders have been using this mast with the 155 in the surf and still love it, but this mast is really meant to be pushed fast, and not so hard rail to rail. This would be the mast for windsport focussed riders, who’s main goal is to go fast, whether it’s on wing, or downwind, or for riders surfing smaller wings, or for everyday riders who aren’t pushing turns insanely hard and want to maximize speed and efficiency

How to Choose the Right Mast

When deciding between Unifoil’s masts, consider the following factors:

Your Riding Style:

• If you’re chasing maximum speed and efficiency, the 75R mast is ideal. Its thinner profile makes it perfect for those who want to accelerate, glide, and carve at top speeds.
• In bigger waves or chunky downwind conditions where more clearance is needed, the 83R is ideal. Being longer, it will have a touch more drag and flex than the 75R, but the mast section is identical.

Your Weight:

• Heavier riders are more susceptible to mast flex. If you weigh more, consider a mast with higher torsional stiffness for better resistance to flex while maintaining performance. Sizing down in mast length will compensate for rider weight vs flex.

Your Foil Size:

• Larger foils generate greater forces on the mast, increasing the risk of mast flex. A thicker mast, with its enhanced torsional stiffness and versatility, better accommodates larger foils. This makes it an ideal choice for riders using medium to large wing sizes.
• If you’re using a smaller foil and prioritize speed, the 75R & 83R are optimized for minimal drag and maximum acceleration.

Mast Length:

• Longer masts are more versatile, allowing greater board clearance at steeper bank angles.
• Longer masts provide more board and breach clearance while riding in choppy conditions or larger swells
• Shorter masts are inherently stiffer (in equal construction & profile)
• Shorter masts have less wetted area which translates to less drag and more speed and glide
• Shorter masts are more reactive and engage turns quicker
